The embargo imposed on Maxmur refugee camp was protested in front of the UN office in Geneva. Kurds called on international institutions to urge the lifting of the embargo.

On 17 July after the murder in a restaurant of the MIT [Turkish Secret Services] responsible for South Kurdistan in Hewlêr, an embargo was imposed on Maxmur refugee camp.

Activists protested in front of the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva, where the 42nd Human Rights Session is on.

The CDK promoted the protest which was attended by hundreds of Kurds who together to call on the UN (which has the responsibility for the camp) to act.

The call was also directed to other international institutions that should ensure respect of the international law given that the camp is under UN protection.

An activist from Maxmur and Salih Sağlam, co-chair of CDK Geneva, addressed the crowd.

In their speeches they reminded people that because of the embargo the people in Maxmur are faced with shortages of medicines and supplies.

They added that delivery of humanitarian aid being sent to the camp was prevented by the Turkish state.

The demonstration ended with the people chanting "The United Nations should protect their own institutions, the United Nations should protect Maxmur".
