Dr. Sorani visits Strasbourg activists: Everyone should rise up

Solidarity visits to the hunger strikers in Strasbourg continue.

Doctor Nasır Sorani has visited the 14 Kurdish activists who have been on an indefinite hunger strike in Strasbourg, France for 112 days demanding the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Sorani, a doctor from South Kurdistan living in Switzerland, examined the physical conditions of the hunger strikers and reported excessive loss of weight which -he said- causes exhaustion for the activists who consequently spend the whole day in bed. The Kurdish doctor also reported increased sensitivity to smell, light and sound.

Sorani stressed that the activists refuse treatment and remain committed to continue their protest until the isolation is broken.

Dr. Sorani pointed out that the isolation imposed on Öcalan is also aimed at the Kurdish people and the peoples of the Middle East that base on co-existence. He remarked that by imposing isolation, the Turkish state has launched a war against the Kurdish people and other peoples for co-existence.

The Kurdish doctor put emphasis on the urgency for the Kurdish people and their friends to rise up before the indefinite hunger strike actions witness undesired results.

Sorani urged the Kurdish people and their friends to be the voice of hunger strikers, and called on the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the Council of Europe to put pressure on the Turkish state immediately to ensure it respects human rights and freedoms.
