Demonstration for Taşdemir in Freiburg, Germany

A demonstration was staged in Freiburg city of Germany in protest at Norway’s extradition of Kurdish female politician Gülizar Taşdemir to the dictatorial regime of Turkey.

Nuda Women’s Assembly organized a demonstration at the Alte Synagoge Square in Freiburg, Germany in protest at the exradition of Kurdish female politician and activist Gülizar Taşdemir to Turkey by Norway. Many people including members of Freiburg Democratic Kurdish Society Centre and Freiburg Alevi Cultural Community joined the demonstration.

Amid slogans “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) and “Political Prisoners are our honour”, a statement was made on behalf of the demonstrators.

The statement stressed that Taşdemir’s extradition to Turkey, a country trampling on laws, goes against international conventions, saying; “It has no place in either conscience or law to hand over an ill politician to the Turkish state which makes further headway in terms of torture and lawlessness every day. As thousands of political prisoners in Turkish jails have no safety of life, Norway and European states will be responsible for any negative consequence likely to be suffered by Taşdemir at the hands of the Turkish state. With this attitude, the European states have become an accomplice in Turkey’s policy of torture. We call on all democratic forces and the public opinion to follow up and take necessary initiatives on this case.”
