Demonstration for Afrin in front of the UN: Silence is complicity

Kurds and their friends are holding a demonstration in front of the United Nations Office in Geneva, calling on the UN to act against the Turkish state.

Kurds and their friends in Switzerland have initiated an indefinite demonstration in front of the United Nations Office in Geneva in protest at the Turkish state and allied gangs’ attacks against Afrin and the UN’s silence on these barbaric attacks.

The demonstration is being held in parallel with the 37th Human Rights Session of the UN Human Rights Council ongoing since February 26.

Demonstrators call attention to Turkish state’s ongoing attacks and massacres against civilians in Afrin despite the UN resolution for a 30-day ceasefire across Syria, giving the message; “The UN’s silence on massacres despite its ceasefire resolution will mean complicity in the massacre of the Kurds”.

Around a thousand people are joining the demonstration in front of the UN and the scene is covered with banners reading “Turkey massacres Kurds, UN remains silent”, “Yesterday Kobane, today Afrin, yesterday ISIS, today Turkey” and “Turkey massacres, Europe, NATO and UN are silent”.

Coffins are displayed to draw attention to the massacre in Afrin, and names of the countries that have a role in the massacre areexposed with writings on banners.

Chanting “Murderer Erdogan”, “Invading Turkish state”, “Turkey massacres, UN watches”, demonstrators urge the UN member states to act immediately against the Turkish state.
