Democracy Vigil in Amed on day 18

18th day of the vigil in Amed to reclaim municipalities usurped by the government.

Protests continue since August 19 when the AKP regime usurped the HDP-run municipalities in Amed (Diyarbakır), Mardin and Van by removing the elected mayors and appointing trustees in their place.

The sit-in action launched in Amed to reclaim the municipality continues on day 18. Crowds gathered on the Lise Avenue leading to the municipality building.

Those attending the action include Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Berdan Öztürk, DTK Co-presidency Council members, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies Remziye Tosun, Musa Farisoğulları, İmam Taşçıer and Saliha Aydeniz, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Diyarbakır branch chairman Ramazan Demirkaya, 78's Initiative Diyarbakır Association President Gani Alkan, Kurdistan Communist Party (KKP) President Çiftyürek and members, Peace Mothers, co-mayors of HDP municipalities, Free Women’s Movement (TJA) members and hundreds of residents.

As the mass chants “We will resist to victory” and “Amed is ours” amid a police blockade around the area, the sit-in will be followed by a press statement.
