Demirtaş: Process of resolution is at its most critical stage

HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş stated that the process of resolution should restart at a level that is further than the one in which the negotiations stopped, and the Turkish state should change its stance on Abdullah Öcalan.

HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş spoke to journalists in front of HDP headquarters before the HDP Central Executive Committee meeting today. Demirtaş hoped that the holy Kadir night would help bring a positive result to the coalition negotiations, and the society’s demands for peace and sisterhood would be met. Demirtaş said that they would express their thoughts and expectations in the coalition meeting that would include the HDP.

We are at the most critical stage

With regards to the KCK statement on the ceasefire, Demirtaş stated that the peace and resolution process was at its most critical stage and the solution process should restart at a level that is further than the one in which the negotiations stopped.

Demirtaş noted that the KCK statement did not imply the end of the ceasefire but emphasized the need for making the ceasefire mutual and ending the operations and dam constructions that threaten the ceasefire.

Incident in Göle is not how it is reported

Demirtaş described the incident that transpired in Ardahan’s Göle district yesterday as worrisome and offered his condolences to the families of the deceased civilian. Demirtaş said that the event did not happen the way mainstream media reports it, and there were several findings confirming that soldiers carried out the attack on civilians.

Finally, Demirtaş commented on the recent isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and said that Öcalan has been under isolation not only for the past 3 months but also for the past 17 years. Demirtaş called on the Turkish state to change its stance on Abdullah Öcalan and said that Öcalan would contribute significantly to the peace and solution process. Demirtaş noted that the HDP delegation’s visits to the island were inadequate, and the process should continue with the additional visits of committees such as the observers’ committee.
