“Boycott Tourism in Turkey” campaign launched in Munich

A stand was opened in the German city to explain why Turkey is not the best ethical destinations.

The Sara Women's Commitee has launched the “Boycott Tourism in Turkey” campaign by opening a stand in Munich.

During the action, Sara members explained to the people stopping at the stand how income from tourism in Turkey is directly linked to the war against Kurds, not just in Turkey, but also in Northern Syria and South Kurdistan (Iraqi’s Kurdish region).

Sara members invited Europeans wishing to travel to Turkey to think it twice as Turkey is not the best place for ethical tourism.

A brochure in various languages was prepared detailing the reasons why tourists should think twice before choosing Turkey as their holiday destination. The boycott promoters reminded that “the Turkish state has been waging a war against a third of its population, namely the Kurds.

Thousands of Kurdish people have been forced to flee their houses, forcibly evicted in the ‘90s (when the war reached its peak) when the army burned more than 4,000 of their villages. In the 2000’s the war reached a new level: after rejecting all proposals and invitations to find a negotiated political solution made by the Kurdish liberation movement, the Turkish state engaged in an all-out attack”.

In the stand there were photos of cities burned down by Erdogan’s regime and a banner saying "No to War and Dictatorship".
