Arrests following meeting with Swiss committee in Amed and Mardin

It has recently come to light that most of the participants of a meeting with a Swiss delegation in Amed and Mardin last October have been arrested. MP Fabian Molina said, “People who met with us are accused of supporting terrorist organizations.

A delegation made up of Swiss scientists, academics and politicians had visited Turkey and North Kurdistan last October. Sociology Professor Ueli Mader, Peace Assembly Chairperson Ruedi Tobler and Socialist Party Federal MP Fabian Molina had attended the hearing of former HDP Co-chair Figen Yuksekdag in Istanbul.

The delegation continued to Mardin where they met with politician Ahmet Turk and attended the hearing of Kiziltepe Co-mayors Leyla Salman and Ismail Asi.

In Amed, the Swiss delegation met with TJA, DTK and DBP administrators, HDP MPs, Egitim Sen and Free Journalists Initiative. In statements about the meetings, it was announced that the Kurdish issue, policies implemented in the region, economic issues, violence against women and pressure against unions were discussed.

“MIT AGENTS WOULD TAKE OUR PHOTOS ALL THE TIME”

It later came to light that the participants of the meetings with the Swiss delegation in Amed and Mardin were arrested. Fabian Molina spoke to Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten and said, “The people who were issued arrest warrants after meeting us have been imprisoned and are accused of supporting terrorist organizations.”

The Swiss MP added that Turkish intelligence agents were constantly following them and all their meetings had been photographed. Molina pointed out that the arrestees were dispersed throughout various prisons in Turkey so the reason for their trial would not come to light. Molina, Socialist Party’s Foreign Relations Commission Chairperson, said he wrote to the Turkish Embassy in Bern about the Arrests but hasn't received a response yet.
