Arab League wants Turkey to withdraw forces from Iraq

The Council of the Arab League demands the Turkish forces withdraw from Iraq and Iraq’s domestic affairs are not meddled with.

The Council of the Arab League foreign ministers held their 150th meeting on Tuesday.

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohammed Ahmad led the council meeting held in Cairo and foreign ministers from 17 countries were present in the meeting, including foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Council members demand that Turkey withdraw its military forces from Iraq as per the Arab League decree No.7978 dated December 24, 2015.

Council members demanded a call for Turkey to “not meddle in Iraq’s domestic affairs” and said, “This harms the security and stability of the region.”

The statement also stressed that the Council supports Baghdad for the decision to be taken against Turkey in accordance with international law.

ISRAEL CALLED “RACIST STATE”

The main agenda in the Council meeting was the Palestine-Israel conflict. The Council protested the US cutting off aid and said Israel declaring itself a “Jewish state” is “racist”.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said: “In the past, Israel defined itself as a democratic state, but [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has made Israel into a racist state through an apartheid law.”
