Racist attack against Kurdish student in Uludağ University

M.C., a Kurdish student in the Uludağ University, was subjected to a racist attack. University administration wishes to cover the issue up.

M.C., a 4th year student in the Sports Sciences Faculty of Bursa’s Uludağ University, was attacked by a racist group in the park in front of his home in Görükle at around 20.30 last night. M.C.’s jaw was broken in the attack, and he was taken in for an operation in the Uludağ University Hospital.

HIS FRIENDS TELL THE STORY

A friend of M.C.’s who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons said: “M.C. was sitting in the park in front of his home at 20.30, when a man asked him where he was from. M.C. couldn’t even say ‘Mardin, Dargeçit’ before a group of people started to hit him on his head. There were some 15 people. The passersby saw the situation but did not intervene. His jaw was broken in the attack.”

“THE DEAN WANTS TO KEEP IT QUIET”

The student said attacks against Kurdish students in the Uludağ University have become commonplace and added: “The Dean of the Sports Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr. Cenk Aydın is trying to cover up the incident. He said he would visit M.C. today. He also said there is no need to make a big deal about it, and that it should be kept quiet.”

NOT THE FIRST TIME

On March 16 two Kurdish students, one of them with a disability, had been attacked by a group claimed to be from the fascist Grey Wolves group.

Students say there has been 8 separate incidents of attacks against Kurdish students in 2018 alone in the Uludağ University.
