As the Deir ez-Zor Military Council under the umbrella of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are advancing in the Operation Cizire Storm, Deir ez-Zor Military Council Commander General Ahmad Abu Khawla said they have launched an operation to liberate the strategic region near the Iraqi border.

Speaking to ANHA news agency, Deir ez-Zor commander Khawla stated that they have launched an operation a few hours ago to liberate the Siwer region which is located near the Iraqi border and some 50 km to Deir ez-Zor city. Several villages in this region are under ISIS occupation.

Ahmad Abu Khawla said the following regarding the importance of the operation: “The region of Siwer is located on Iraqi-Syrian border, and between Cizire Region and Deir ez-Zor region. Our goal is to liberate the region in a few days.”

Deir ez-Zor Military Council Commander General said there are a large number of civilians in this region who have been suffering from ISIS atrocity for years.

“Deir ez-Zor Military Council is acting to open a safe corridor in order to rescue the civilians. We are progressing to realize our plan east of the Euphrates”, he added.
