HDP: Our youth Assembly members must be released immediately

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) demanded that the 23 members of the Youth Assembly Members detained on June 17 be released immediately.

HDP Law and Human Rights Commission Spokesperson and Batman MP Ayse Acar Basaran said, “The AKP-MHP alliance continues their policies of oppression and intimidation in every arena. The groups most affected by these policies are women and the youth.”

Basaran said 23 members of the Adana HDP Youth Assembly were detained in house raids on Monday and were subjected to police brutality: “It must be known that these systemic attacks against the youth and all opposition circles will not yield any results.”

The statement issued by the HDP said:

“The youth who were detained by illegitimate means and are now threatened by the baton of the law in a bid to make informants out of them will resist these practices today like they did yesterday.

The youth, drawing their strength from the years-long youth struggle, democratic gains and their righteous cause, will not step back in the face of these attacks. The youth who speak their truth under the HDP umbrella, who fight and whose demands and representation are taken to the Parliament, will not be intimidated by such attacks.

Our Youth Assembly members will continue to fight for a free and democratic future and country. Those who try to terrorize the youth and keep them away from politics and society at large will be convicted, sooner or later.

These insane attacks against our Youth Assembly must end at once and our Youth Assembly members must be released immediately.”
