French police attacks vigil in Strasbourg

French police attacked the vigil and the tent set up by sit-in protestors who demand security and freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Hundreds of French police raided the tents used by the protestors in front of Council of Europe building on Tuesday morning. The organizing committee labelled the police action as a provocation and called upon all Kurds to come to Strasbourg for support.

“We are in action for 52 days and demand a visit to Imralı Island by the CPT. Despite the repeated demands we face police provocations, not a statement from the officials. Today we face the same mentality. Everybody should know that we won’t take a step back against this” the organizing committee’s statement read.

After various reports about the health of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, Kurds in Europe launched a sit-in protest in front of Council of Europe building in Strasbourg on October 23.
