Demirtaş: We never surrendered and will remain here

DTK, HDK, HDP and DBP Co-Presidents issued a statement in Sur, where the resistance against state forces’ attacks enters its 90th day.

HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş, DBP Co-President Kamuran Yüksek, HDK Co-Spokesperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, and DTK Co-Presidents Hatip Dicle and Selma Irmak issued a statement in Sur, where the resistance against state forces’ attacks enters its 90th day. In his statement from Sur, Demirtaş called upon everyone to march to Sur on Wednesday until the state ends its siege.

‘HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE DIED DURING THE WAR THAT AKP INITIATED’

Selahattin Demirtaş noted that state forces have been attacking Sur for 90 days, and the initiatives of politicians aiming to end the siege have been in vain due to the policies of war that the AKP imposes. Demirtaş noted that the armed confrontation would have ended if the siege of Sur was lifted, and the on-going war harmed everyone and increased civilians’ anger at the state.

Demirtaş stated that HDP Co-Presidents and politicians would join the vigil of families in Dicle Fırat Cultural Center, and called upon the residents of Diyarbakır to march towards Sur at 16:00 on Wednesday until state forces end their siege. Demirtaş called upon everyone to prepare for the non-violent march on Wednesday, and said that only the people’s resistance would end the siege of Sur.

‘WE NEVER SURRENDERED AND WILL REMAIN HERE’

HDP Co-President called upon state forces to not attack the people’s march, and said that they never surrendered and would remain in Sur until state forces end their siege. Demirtaş thanked the residents of Diyarbakır for their resilience, and called upon the Turkish government to change its aggressive stance and end the bloodshed in Sur. He noted that the HDP was working towards a permanent end to the conflict, and aimed to prevent the deaths of civilians, armed protestors, soldiers and police officers.
