The moment YPJ fighter Sorxwîn ran out of bullets

YPJ fighter Sorxwîn was first caught in an ISIS ambush, then separated from her friends during the clash, and finally she ran out of bullets and was wounded. She has a hard time even recalling her worry: “I could have been captured alive by ISIS."

Fighters advancing to liberate occupied Raqqa march on to the defense lines ISIS prepared with all their strength to break the intense attacks.

Sorxwîn Goran from the YPJ risked capture during such an advance by the city’s entrance, and she spoke to the ANF about her experience. She is bashful even when retelling her story.

Sorxwîn is one of the YPJ fighters in the Great Battle that was launched to liberate Raqqa 3 weeks ago. She was caught in an ISIS ambush by the entrance of the city along with 5 of her friends. Following an intense clash, Sorxwîn was separated from her friends. When her ammunition ran out, she came face to face with ISIS members. She was wounded on her foot.

When we ask her how she felt, she says: “I was out of ammo, and I was wounded on my foot. I thought of being captured alive by ISIS then.” Sorxwîn pauses, then demands the camera be turned off. She thinks she isn’t understood, so she adds: “I thought of being captured alive by ISIS gangs. It shamed me so much.”

Sorxwîn says that as a woman, her most important motivation to fight is the cruelty ISIS barbarism has imposed upon women and children. She stresses that she is certain of the final victory.
