Selahattin Demirtaş to remain in prison

Court ruled HDP co-chair should stay in jail.

Hearing of a case against Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş was held at Ankara 19th Heavy Penal Court on Wednesday.

Selahattin Demirtaş has been accused of "establishing and managing an organisation", "propaganda for the organization" and “praising a crime and criminals”. The prosecutor asked up to142 years in prison sentences.

The court decided to extend the detention of Demirtaş and adjourned the hearing to August 28-29.

In the past one year alone 33 cases have been filed against the former HDP co-chair.
