Sleeper cells of ISIS and the Euphrates Shield neutralized by YPG

YPG units, Asayish forces and Special Security Teams (HAT) carried out successful simultaneous operations targeting to eliminate the members of the group in the villages of Qubba and Cada of Sheikhlar town, southwestern Kobani.

On September 19th, sleeper cells with ties to the Turkish secret services and ISIS that were preparing attacks in northern Syrian territory have been neutralized in a joint operation conducted by YPG forces and Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in Kobani’s southwestern town of Sheikhlar on September 19.

The statement by YPG Press Office said the following:

“The groups were organizing an underground network aiming to carry out attacks accros Rojava and northern Syria in order to disturb a relatively safe and stable situation in the region. Many cells that have been created with the same goal are hiding among civilians in various places in Rojava.

A group that was preparing for an attack and had been closely watched by security forces have been neutralized in a joint operation by our forces and Asayish in Kobani.

On September 19th, our units, Asayish forces and Special Security Teams (HAT) carried out successful simultaneous operations targeting to eliminate the members of the group in the villages of Qubba and Cada of Sheikhlar town, southwestern Kobani.

Dozens of Turkish backed mercenaries affiliated to the groups in the Turkish controlled Euphrates Shield zone and ISIS members were captured alive as a result of the operations.

Also, a large quantity of ammunition including explosive devices, 2 B-7 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade launchers and 10 warheads, 11 AK-47 rifles, 2 night vision glasses, 4 binoculars, 14 cell phones, 4 radio devices, 9 pistols and ammunition were discovered and confiscated.”
