Arîn and Mîrkan sisters in guerrilla ranks

Sisters Arîn Mîrkan and Mîrkan Arîn, who are following the footsteps of Arîn Mîrkan that sacrificed herself in Kobanê, joined guerrilla ranks with the spirit of resistance.

Two sisters whose family had been forced to migrate from Mardin, North Kurdistan to Europe joined guerrilla ranks. Arîn and Mîrkan sisters stated that they were shaken by the massacres in Kobanê and Shengal, and joined the guerrillas with the spirit of Arîn Mîrkan that sacrificed herself in Kobanê. The sisters said “Arîn Mîrkan’s spirit of self-sacrifice brought us to the freedom ranks.”

"ARÎN MÎRKAN IS A SYMBOL OF FREEDOM"

22 years old Arîn stated that Arîn Mîrkan’s action became a symbol in Kurdistan and paved the way for the freedom of women in Kurdistan and other parts of the world. Arîn said “I decided to join the ranks of freedom after this action. My sister joined after me. Kurdish families know well the pain of living away from their country. Kurds have been forced to migrate for many years now. However, instead of escaping and living in other countries, we now want to fight for our land. We joined without worries and with a spirit of self-sacrifice, like Arîn Mîrkan who has become the symbol of freedom for all women. We will struggle and fight bravely just like she did.”

MÎRKAN FOLLOWED ARÎN

Mîrkan decided to join the guerrillas after her sister did. She stressed that: “Nobody should forget that thousands of Arîns follow martyrs such as Arîn Mirkan who sacrificed herself for this country. Many more will follow me as I followed her. It is an honor for me and my family to be a part of this movement. Now, it is not the time for estrangement but for returning to our core values and fighting for the truth. We decided to join because we became aware of this.”
