PYD delegation meets UN Special Envoy in Geneva

UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura has met a delegation of the Rojava's PYD (Democratic Union Party) as part of an ongoing talks in Geneva for a political solution in Syria.

A delegation of the Rojava's PYD (Democratic Union Party) has met UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura as part of an ongoing talks in Geneva for a political solution in Syria.

Staffan de Mistura and a four person delegation accompanying him met PYD Co-chair Saleh Moslem, PYD European Representative Abdulselam Mustafa and PYD Autonomous Administration Spokesperson Sînem Muhammed at the United Nations office at Geneva where negotiations aimed at ending the civil war in Syria are going on.

PYD Co-chair Saleh Moslem who said the meeting was positive, called attention to the importance of this kind of talks in order for the achievement of a political solution in Syria. Muslim said they told the UN Envoy that the Rojava system was a model for a democratic resolution in Syria, and made a call for the UN to attach importance to this point.

Moslem said the PYD delegation also told about the YPG's fight against the ISIS, describing it as a struggle for not only Kurds but also all peoples living in the region.

PYD co-chair said they also drew attention to the peaceful role played by the Kurds since the beginning of the civil war in Syria, and explained that they would continue siding with a democratic and political solution meant to involve all peoples in Syria. The PYD delegation suggested that the UN should also develop a resolution strategy on this basis.

Moslem added that UN officials would continue talks with the opposition groups of Syria, including the PYD.
