Four political groups within the European Parliament have called for a visit to Turkey and its Kurdish region, as well as efforts in order for the re-initiation of negotiations between two sides.

The written request, which has been submitted to the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, calls upon the European Union and European Parliament to contribute efforts for the re-beginning of the resolution process on the Kurdish question.

The joint request was submitted by Chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Gianni Pittella; Chair of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, Guy Verhofstadt; Co-Chair of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance, Rebecca Harms; and Chair of the Confederal Group of the European United Left - Nordic Green Left, Gabriele Zimmer.

The chairs of the 4 groups voiced concerns over the escalating massacre and violence perpetrated by the AKP in North Kurdistan, and called for an official visit by the European Parliament to the region.

Putting emphasis on the need for a ceasefire, MEPs also called upon the EP and EU representatives to interfere the ongoing conflict on the basis of a cooperation.
