As Turkey's lifting of MP immunities continues to draw reactions from across the country and abroad, yet another criticism has come from an initiative formed by three political parties in the Danish Parliament, Enhedslisten, Socialistiske Folkeparti and Alternativet.

In a statement on behalf of the Initiative, Enhedslisten Foreign Relations Spokesman Nikolaj Villumsen condemned the coup staged by the Palace, pointing out that efforts are being made for the elimination of the legal Kurdish institutions fighting for democracy due to pressure from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Villumsen underlined that the process for the passage of the constitutional amendment proposal for the removal of immunities will cripple the hopes for democracy in Turkey, warning that this could also eliminate the conditions necessary to achieve a new peace process.

Pointing to the Turkish state's genocidal attacks and the self-rule resistance in North Kurdistan, Villumsen recalled that numerous civilians lost their lives and hundreds of thousands were forcibly displaced as a result of the ongoing conflict in the region.

Villumsen remarked that the three parties have submitted a parliamentary question to the Foreign Ministry on this issue and called upon the Ministry to openly condemn the trial of elected politicians. He added that the parties also invited the Danish Parliament to a session to discuss this matter at 13:00 next Wednesday.

Villumsen called upon the European Union to withdraw its support to Erdoğan's policies, adding; "Unless the EU ends its support to Erdoğan's policies and urges both sides to return to negotiations for a peaceful solution, the conflict could go out of control and Europe could face another flow of refugees from masses trying to flee the conflict environment."

Enhedslisten MP Søren Søndergård stated that the government of Turkey has brought the country one step closer to a probable civil war, saying; "It is a very tragic decision which we as Enhedslisten deputies protest."

In the meantime, HDP Denmark organisation will hold a rally in Copenhagen at 16:00 next Wednesday when the Danish Parliament is expected to hold a session to discuss the immunity issue.
