Call for attendance to the rally in Cologne for democracy against coups

ABDEM, Democratic Union of Forces, Haziran (June) Movement and HDK-Europe have called for attendance to the march and rally to be held in Cologne in September 3 for peace and democracy and against military and civilian coups.

European Peace and Democracy Assembly (ABDEM), Democratic Union of Forces, Haziran (June) Movement and HDK Europe issued a written statement on the march and rally to be held in Cologne in September 3.

The joint statement pointed out the coup attempt in Turkey was used by the AKP and the Palace as a tool to reinforce the fascist dictatorship and said: “Tayyip Erdoğan has rendered the parliament dysfunctional and started ruling the country with the State of Emergency and statutory decrees. Launching countless attacks via the State of Emergency, he aims to destroy not only the coup plotters but our people’s struggle for freedom and democracy as well.”

The statement also mentioned Özgür Gündem’s closing and underlined Hurşit Külter’s disappearance, attacks on the opposition, violence against women and anti-Alevi policies.

“WE ARE CONCERNED FOR ÖCALAN”

The statement also highlighted the rise in political genocide operations and continued:

“The Turkish state’s war on our Kurdish people continues at full speed. The reality of burned down cities and hundreds of thousands of displaced people makes life that much harder. DBP offices are looted, dozens of people are arrested every day. 54 of our people died in Antep in the latest ISIS massacre carried out by help from the Turkish state.”

The statement also condemned the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and included: “We share the concerns regarding the health and safety of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, as all his ties with the outside world are severed and a strict isolation is imposed upon him. Attacks on prisoners have intensified, and torture and exile has become a routine part of the prisoners’ lives.”

The statement expressed that Turkish state is ignoring KCK’s call for a solution, and criticized the arrest of Kurdish politicians in Germany under the influence from the Turkish state.

“JOIN US IN THE MARCH AND THE RALLY”

The statement concludes with the following:

“As democratic mass organisations fighting for freedom, peace and democracy and against military and civilian coups; we are raising our voice against the fascist attacks of the Turkish state, its massacres, the torture, isolation, State of Emergency practices destroying democratic rights and against the oppression of the German state.

We call on all democratic forces on the side of freedom and democracy, local and immigrant, to join us in the march and rally to be held in Cologne in September 3 with the motto ‘No Military Coup, No Civilian Dictatorship! Long Live the Peoples’ Fight for Freedom and Democracy’.”
