YPG: Operation Rubar Qamishlo completed successfully

During the course of the operation, the cantons of Kobanê and Cizîre were geographically connected, and 1472 members of the ISIS groups were killed.

In a statement to the press at Şehit (Martyr) Serhed Battalion in Qamishlo, Sozdar Dêrik from YPG General Command announced that the “Operation Martyr Rubar Qamishlo” which was initiated from Serêkaniyê on 6 May with the objective of clearing the Cizîre Canton of ISIS gangs, and continued with the liberation of Tal Abyad and Eyn Îsa, has been completed successfully.

HUNDREDS OF VILLAGES AND DOZENS OF TOWNS LIBERATED

YPG General Command member Sozdar Dêrik stated that hundreds of villages and dozens of towns have been liberated and an area of 11 thousand squares kilometers has been cleansed of ISIS gangs during the operation which was carried out in two phases.

Pointing out that the liberation of Tal Abyad caused a major defeat for the ISIS, Dêrik said that 1472 ISIS members were killed and corpses of 647 of them were seized, while 139 fighters of the Defense Units lost their lives during the operation.

YPG Commander underlined that; "We have a promise to our comrades who fell in the operation; we will keep out struggle going with great determination and courage, and pursue their self-sacrificing stance until a democratic, free and pluralist Syria has been built."
