One-day mourning in North Kurdistan for victims of Suruç massacre

DTK (Democratic Society Congress) has declared one-day mourning in North Kurdistan in memory of the victims of yesterday's Suruç massacre which left 32 people dead and dozens of others wounded.

DTK held an emergency meeting yesterday evening in the wake of the bloody suicide attack which targeted members of the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) in the garden of Amara Cultural Center located in Urfa’s Suruç district, where 300 socialist youths from İstanbul met before going to Kobanê in order to join reconstruction efforts.

The emergency meeting led by DTK was also participated by representatives of all organizations and political parties in North Kurdistan, including Amed Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Association of 78's, Peace Mothers Assembly, Azadi Movement, Freedom and Socialism Party, DBP (Party of Democratic Regions, formerly BDP), HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party), as well as co-mayors of municipalities, and representatives of many NGOs and political parties.

Speaking after the meeting, DTK Co-Presidency Council Member Hilmi Aydoğdu declared one-day mourning in North Kurdistan as of 08:00 Tuesday, and called for strong participation from the people of Kurdistan and all the friends standing by the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle.

Aydoğdu called on people to hang black flags and banners on their houses, workplaces and institutions to manifest their stance and pain.

Aydoğdu added that protest actions will be held across North Kurdistan at 20:00 every evening as of Tuesday.
