Kobanê Canton calls for worldwide support against barbarism

The Executive Council of Kobanê Canton in West Kurdistan, Rojava, has called for worldwide support in order for peace and equality to triumph over barbarism.

The Executive Council of Kobanê Canton in West Kurdistan, Rojava, has called for worldwide support in order for peace and equality to triumph over barbarism.

Recalling that Kobanê and other two cantons of Rojava – Efrîn and Cizîrê- have been under uninterrupted attack since the declaration of self-rule by the Kurdish people on 19 July 2012, the statement by the Executive Council of Kobanê Canton said the aim of the Rojava model was to establish a new system based on self-governance and open to socio-cultural, religious and ethnic diversity.

Referring to the resistance waged against the attacks by ISIS and other gang groups, the statement said; "By repelling the attacks of the extreme groups, the people of Rojava have revealed splendid will and commitment to form a new administration. While this commitment reached the peak with the popular resistance in Kobanê, which became the beginning of the end for the "ISIS myth", Kobanê resistance has proved to the whole world that the people's will and unity of local institutions would be sufficient to fight against terror and to defend humanity and peace."

'PEOPLE WANT TO RETURN AND REBUILD THEIR LAND'

The statement recalled that Kobanê victory was accomplished at the cost of a heavy price, as is easily observed in daily life, noting that 70 percent of the buildings in the town were demolished during the battle, which forced a large majority of the people to migrate, who all want to return and rebuild their land now.

'RESISTANCE OF THE ROJAVA PEOPLES CONTINUE'

Remarking that resistance in Kobanê Canton continued despite all the impossibilities, the statement said; "Despite the ongoing closure of the border crossing with Turkey and the significant lack of medical and food supplies, People's Defense Units (YPG), Women's Defense Units (YPJ) and all the components of Rojava (Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians) continue resisting the ISIS in harmony and also with the support of airstrikes by the International Coalition."

The Executive Council of Kobanê Canton recalled that the people of Kobanê and Rojava called for support from all the people that unite around the values of peace and justice to put pressure on Turkey in order for the opening of a humanitarian corridor for the reconstruction. It noted that the promises made in this regard so far have yet to be fulfilled.

'CALL FOR ACTION ON NOVEMBER 1 IN SOLIDARITY WITH KOBANÊ'

The Executive Council of Kobanê Canton called upon the world peoples to manifest solidarity with Kobanê and its brave people on November 1, World Kobanê Day.

Calling attention to the influence left on the world by Kobanê people's resistance and victory over the enemies of humanity, the statement added; "The greater the support for Rojava and Kobanê people is, the greater will be the possibility for the victory of peace and equality over barbarism."
