Families denied bodies of their slain children in Sur to go on death fast

Families on vigil to receive the bodies of their children killed in Sur for 37 days will go on death fast if the on-going siege is not lifted and their children’s bodies are not evacuated.

Families that have been organizing a vigil protest for the past 37 days in order to access the bodies of their children who were massacred by state forces in Amed’s Sur district announced that they would go on death fast if the on-going siege was not lifted and their children’s bodies were not evacuated.

The vigil of families that have been trying to evacuate the bodies of their children who were massacred by state forces in Amed’s Sur district enters its 37th day. Mustafa Çukur, the father of Rozerin Çukur, stated that they could not retrieve the bodies of Turgay Girçek, Rozerin Çukur, Ramazan Öğüt, Gündüz Akmeşe, Welat Bilen, Cihat Morgül, Mahmut Oruç, Hakan Arslan, Erhan Keskin and Erdal Tekin yet despite all efforts.

Rozerin's father stated that they have been trying to retrieve their children’s bodies for almost two months now, and would go on death fast unless they received the bodies within a week. He added that their relatives would also take part in this death fast.

Lastly, Çukur said that everyone who stayed silent in the face of the siege in Amed’s Sur district were also responsible for the massacre, and called upon the people of Amed to rise up against the state forces’ efforts to commit a second Cizre massacre in Sur.
