Popular resistance for self-rule endures in Şırnak's Cizre district where a state of siege under a so-called curfew continues for the 40th uninterrupted day.

Due to an ongoing failure to break the resistance in the areas of self-rule, Turkish military and police forces continue to devastate the town in an attempt to impose a total evacuation of the thousands that remain there despite all the attacks they have faced for over a month now.

Cudi and Nur neighborhoods, among the major areas targeted by Turkish forces, remain under artillery fire since last night. Both neighborhoods are being targeted by tanks deployed on Hill Caferi Sadık, Hill Çarkendal, Kobanê Street and Arin Mirxan Street, which has left dozens more houses demolished. Artillery attacks have also started a fire in many houses and workplaces.

Turkish soldiers are in the meantime raiding and searching civilian houses in Dağkapı and Alibey neighborhoods in company with the Ottoman Mehter Anthem loudly played in armored vehicles. Soldiers are forcing residents to leave their houses, and breaking into empty houses and workplaces by blowing up the doors with explosives.

HDP Şırnak deputy Ferhat Encü, who has been in Silopi district since the beginning of the most recent “curfew”, wanted to go to Cizre together with a group of people this morning. While the group was stopped by police near the town and denied entry, they were not allowed to turn back to Silopi either. The group has therewith left for Şırnak province.
