While the attacks of the AKP government against press continue, Solidarity Network Against Censorship has said in a report on censorship and attacks on press that 35 journalist were detained and one other was remanded in custody during the month of September.

The report underlined that attacks and repressions against the press in Turkey are on increase ahead of the snap election to be held on November 1, adding that journalists and press organisations were not only subjected to lawsuits and censorship but also targeted by physical assaults. The report said the censorship and repressions on the press are being implemented in consideration of mainly daily columns, TV programs and tweets of press members.

The Solidarity Network further reported that two journalists were attacked by police during September and two others were abducted and threatened again by police. The balance sheet also included two attacks with stones and sticks against Hürriyet daily, as well as the assault on Turkish journalist Ahmet Hakan. According to the figures provided by the report, other attacks that took place during last month are as follows:

-Two press institutions were raided by police

-Legal action was taken against 19 journalists for “insulting the President”

-35 journalists were detained

-One journalist was remanded in custody

-Three foreign journalists were deported

-Attempts at restraining Dicle News Agency (DIHA) continued, which was censored 21 times.
